Dupree, Wolfe post NCAA qualifiers in Texas Relays multi-events competition Texas Relays Information/Results
AUSTIN, Texas - UTSA juniors Ryanne Dupree and Bryan Wolfe posted NCAA provisional-qualifying marks in the multi-event competitions to highlight day two action for the UTSA track and field teams at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays held at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Dupree scored a provisional-qualifying 5,298 points to finish fourth in a loaded field of 16 athletes in the women’s heptathlon. The All-American posted 3,240 points in the first four events on Wednesday, including season bests of 5-4 1/4 in the high jump, 33-10 3/4 in the shot put and 24.74 in the 200 meters. Dupree came back Thursday to add a wind-aided 18-5 1/2 measure in the long jump, a 111-6 mark in the javelin and a 2:24.21 clocking in the 800m to conclude the seven-event marathon.
Diana Pickler and her sister Julie of Washington State finished one-two with 5,492 and 5,414 points, respectively, while Houston’s Krystal Ward was third (5,327). Freshman Ashley Allen finished 12th with a personal best 4,789 points. The Jim Ned High School product turned in marks of 15.10 in the 100m, 5-4 1/4 in the high jump, 34-8 1/2 in the shot put, 26.52 in the 200m, 17-0 in the long jump, 111-11 in the javelin and 2:28.88 in the 800m. Dupree won this event last year with a school-record 5,383 points.
Wolfe was solid in the men’s decathlon, scoring a provisional-qualifying and personal-best 7,045 points to finish seventh in the 14-man field. Wolfe moved up in the standings with a late charge Thursday after scoring 3,630 points in the first five events on Wednesday, highlighted by a 50.04 clocking in the 400m. His second-day performance included a 15.28 in the 110m hurdles, a 119-11 in the discus, a 13-11 1/4 clearance in the pole vault, a 185-10 heave in the javelin and a 4:48.51 timing in the 1,500m.
Trey Hardee and Donovan Kilmartin of Texas finished first (7,839) and second (7,650), respectively, while Will Thomas of Connecticut was third (7,552). Junior All-American Brandon Buteaux was in top five contention until a no-height in the pole vault, the eighth event. Buteaux did post several solid marks, including career-bests of 42-2 3/4 in the shot put and 142-1 in the discus.
In other action during the first two days, former UTSA standout and New Zealand Olympian Liza Hunter-Galvan ran away with the women’s 10,000m crown late Wednesday night, covering the 25 laps in 35:13.33 for the fastest time in the event at the Relays since 1996. Junior Rita Lambert finished eighth overall and sixth among collegians in the “B” section of the women’s 1,500m with a 4:42.77 clocking, the team’s fastest of the season. Former Roadrunners Leticia Cerna and Letitia Gilkes placed fourth (4:39.67) and seventh (4:42.68), respectively.
Sophomore Lyndsey Sidney punched her ticket to the NCAA Midwest Regional with a 1:00.58 clocking in the 400m hurdles prelims, but just missed the final field of nine with the 11th-fastest time of the afternoon. The men’s 4x800m relay team posted a 7:34.60 for eighth place in the 17-team field won by Southern California’s stadium record 7:21.75.
The Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays continue Friday-Saturday in Austin.
