SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA Roadrunners grabbed four singles victories and the doubles point en route to a 5-2 non-conference victory over the New Mexico State Aggies on Monday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
UTSA, which improved to 10-2 overall, won the doubles point as Hetori Chaves and Anthony Portois combined for an 8-6 win at No. 2 over New Mexico State's Stjepan Beg and Jorge Williams, while Jonas Hoglund and Adam Becker defeated Ben Archer-Clowes and Jeff Pfeifer by an 8-6 count at No. 3.
The Roadrunners clinched the match in singles winning in the No. 3 through No. 6 positions. Almeida won 5-7, 6-4 (10-4) at No. 3 over Luis Avila; Hoglund won 6-1, 2-0 (retired) over Archer-Clowes at No. 4; Joe Michael Olfindo scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over Williams at No. 5; while Hetori Chaves prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 over Pfeifer. With the wins, Chaves is now 10-1 in singles play this spring, while Olfindo improved to 10-2.
New Mexico State fell to 4-4 overall.
UTSA, which now has a three-match winning streak, will return to action on March 24 with a non-conference home match against DePaul that begins at 2 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
