UTSA Men's Tennis scores 5-2 home win over Lamar

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA Roadrunners grabbed four singles victories and the doubles point en route to a 5-2 Southland Conference victory over the Lamar Cardinals on Saturday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.

UTSA, which improved to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, won the doubles point as Ricardo Almeida and Dennis Andrade combined for an 8-3 win at No. 1 over Lamar's Dean Clower and Ignacio Melus, while Jonas Hoglund and Adam Becker defeated Christian Olivier and David Wanja by an 8-1 count at No. 3.

The Roadrunners clinched the match in singles as Andrade scored a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Emilio Kirby; Hoglund won 6-1, 6-1 over Emmanuel Olivier at No. 4; Joe Michael Olfindo scored a 6-4, 7-5 over Clower at No. 5; and Hetori Chaves prevailed 7-6, 6-1 at No. 6 over Christian Olivier. With the win, Chaves is now 9-1 in singles play this spring, while Olfindo improved to 9-2.

Lamar fell to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in SLC play.

UTSA will return to action on March 21 with a non-conference home match against New Mexico State that begins at 11 a.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
