AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Krystal Gibson hit her fourth home run of the season, but it was not enough as No. 4 Texas took a 7-1 decision in game two of a doubleheader Wednesday evening at McCombs Field. Longhorns Olympian Cat Osterman hurled her second perfect game of the season and Desiree Williams slugged two home runs in game one, a 2-0 win over the Roadrunners.

With the sweep, the Longhorns improve to 16-3 overall, while UTSA falls to 16-10.

Gibson led the UTSA offense in game two, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while junior Jessica Els also had two hits.

Texas jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game two. Jacqueline Williams drew a bases loaded walk to push the first run across and Christina Gwyn drilled a two-out double just inside the bag at third that plated two runs, while Gwyn scored the fourth run of the inning when the throw back into the infield got away into the UTSA dugout.

Els broke the silence for the Roadrunners with a one-out single through the right side in the top of the second, but starting pitcher Amy Bradford was able to strand her with a strikeout and a fielder’s choice.

Gibson put the Runners on the board with a deep blast over the right field fence in the third that cut the deficit to 4-1. It was the first run Bradford has given up this season.

The Longhorns tacked on three more runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth. Rachael Cook led off with a double to left and a single to left by Gwyn put runners on first and second with no outs. Alexis Garcia then singled to left to score two and came all the way around as the throw to third got away to the outfield.

In game one, Osterman (7-2) fanned 18 batters for her sixth career perfect game and her 11th no-hitter. Freshman Amanda Nikolenko allowed two runs on just three hits in falling to 8-5 on the year.

Desiree Williams hit her first home run deep over the left field fence in the bottom of the second to stake the Longhorns to a 1-0 lead. She added another off the scoreboard in center field in the fourth for a 2-0 advantage.

The Roadrunners open defense of their Southland Conference regular season crown on with a three-game series against McNeese State on Saturday-Sunday, March 12-13, at Roadrunner Field.
