SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA men's tennis team improved to 7-1 on the spring season after rolling to a 7-0 win over St. Joseph's (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
UTSA opened the match by winning all three doubles matches as Dennis Andrade and Hetori Chaves prevailed 8-0 at No. 1 over St. Joseph's Dru Kitchell and Andy Dowell. At No. 2, UTSA's Adam Becker and Anthony Portois won 8-5 over Kyle Marburger and Albert Santa Cruz. While at No. 3, Joe Michael Olfindo and Nate Avila scored an 8-2 win over Ryan Hendrickson and Nate Burton.
In singles play, the Roadrunners won all six matches by a combined score of 72 games to five. At No. 1 singles, Andrade defeated Kitchell, 6-1, 6-0; at No. 2, Portois scored a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dowell; at No. 3, Chaves prevailed 6-2, 6-0 over Marburger; at No. 4, Olfindo improved to 7-0 in spring singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Santa Cruz; at No. 5, Avila won 6-0, 6-0 over Hendrickson; and at No. 6, Becker won a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Burton.
The Roadrunners will return to action this weekend with matches at Tennessee-Chattanooga on March 11, East Tennessee State on March 12 and Belmont on March 13.
