UTSA Men’s Golf team set for season opener at Rice Intercollegiate
SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men’s golf team will open the 2005 season at the Rice Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 7-8, held at Wildcat Golf Course in Houston.
The Roadrunners return four letterwinners from last year’s team that won three tournament titles, including the Rice Intercollegiate. Headlining the list of returnees is junior John Elizondo and sophomores Matt Johnston and Kitt Thabungkan, a third team All-Southland Conference selection last year.
Highly-touted freshman Nick Olivarri will provide an immediate impact to the lineup as he led the team with a 71.90 stroke average last fall.
Head coach Chris Donielson is entering his fifth season at the helm and has produced six all-conference golfers, two academic all-league performers and one academic all-district honoree. Donielson has four team titles during his tenure, including three during the 2003-04 campaign.
