Roadrunners set to host UTSA Intercollegiate Tournament Preview | Tournament Web Site
SAN ANTONIO - After a three-week layoff, the UTSA men’s golf team is set to host the UTSA Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 28-March 1, at Oak Hills Country Club (6,691 yards, par 71) in San Antonio. The Roadrunners welcome 18 teams, including defending champion Kansas, for the 54-hole tournament. The first and second rounds will be contested on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Field: Air Force, Arkansas-Little Rock, Baylor, Illinois State, Iowa State, Kansas, Louisiana-Monroe, Mexico National Team, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico State, North Texas, Northern Iowa, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, Texas-Pan American, Texas-San Antonio, Wichita State.
Results: Results will be emailed and/or faxed to all school's sports information offices. Results also will be posted on the official web site for UTSA Athletics — www.goUTSA.com — at the end of each day.
Last Time Out: Led by a 10th-place finish from freshman Nick Olivarri, the UTSA men placed 12th with a 27-over 603 at the Rice Intercollegiate on Feb. 7-8. Olivarri carded rounds of 73 and 72 for a one-over 145 as the top Roadrunner. North Texas won the team title at eight-over 584 behind individual medalist Anthony Broussard’s three-under 141.
2004 UTSA Intercollegiate Rewind: Kitt Thabungkan tied for 11th place with a five-over 218, but Kansas turned in a four-over 856 to hold off Baylor (870) and UTSA (875) and win the UTSA Intercollegiate team title. Baylor’s Ryan Baca fired a four-under 209 to take top individual honors. Other UTSA finishers included Mike Mezei (15th, 219), Matt Johnston (37th, 226) and Ryan Cromwell (60th (231). Tim Martin tied for 22nd (222) as an individual competitor.
