Box Score

THIBODAUX, La. – The University of Texas at San Antonio women’s basketball team never got into a rhythm Saturday at Nicholls State and dropped a 58-54 decision to the Lady Colonels at Stopher Gym.

UTSA shot just 32 percent for the game and fell to 13-10 overall, while going to 7-5 in the league. The Lady Colonels improved to 7-17 and 4-9 in the SLC.

Freshman Richelle Parks posted her fifth double of the year with 19 points and 12 rebounds but she was the only Roadrunner in double figures. Junior Lacy Mingee netted nine points, while sophomore Ana Oliveira had a career high five assists.

Nkechi Nwachuku led NSU with 14 points, while Katherine Plummer scored 13.

Trailing 26-24 at the half, the Roadrunners saw the Lady Colonels open the second half on a 12-4 run to lead 38-28 with 12:38 remaining. The home team ran its lead to as much as 14, at 50-36, before UTSAS began to trim the deficit.

Katie Sandefur’s three-pointer with 27 seconds left drove the Lady Colonel lead down to just 57-51, but the Roadrunners could not connect on their next two trips down the floor. Freshman Terrie Davis’ trey as time ran out accounted for the final margin.

UTSA finished the game 19-of-58 from the field but hit only 2-of-9 from three-point range. The Roadrunners out-rebounded the Lady Colonels 44-41.

UTSA will return to the Convocation Center on Wednesday, Feb. 23 for a 6 p.m. contest against Lamar.
