| February 15, 2005 No. 1 Texas handles Roadrunners, 10-0 AUSTIN, Texas – Five University of Texas pitchers combined to shut out the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners, 10-0, Tuesday at Disch-Falk Field. The Roadrunners, who were held to just four hits, fell to 0-4 on the year. The Longhorns, ranked no. 1 by Collegiate Baseball, went to 8-0. Texas started its scoring in the second inning, added a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth frames, and pushed thee runs across in the seventh inning as UTSA suffered its second shutout of the year. In the fifth inning, first baseman Will Crouch doubled to lead off the inning before a single by left fielder Carson Krainer and a walk to Van Hook loaded the bases. Designated hitter David Maroul then lobbed a hit to center field that eluded Roadrunner centerfielder Sean Danielson. As UTSA rightfielder Chris Lewis chased down the ball in deep center field, Texas pinch runner Kyle McCullough and Krainer scored before Lewis threw a perfect relay to catcher Robbie Johns and gunned down Van Hook at the plate. The Longhorns closed the day’s scoring in the seventh. Van Hook and second baseman Robby Hudson drew walks from Roadrunner reliever Noah Tritz before Prince singled home Van Hook. Stubbs then singled and went to second, scoring Hudson and Prince. Longhorn starter Kenn Kasparek picked up his second win of the year, going a career high six complete innings. Roadrunner starter Caleb Barton, a transfer from Panola Junior College who was making his first career start, took the loss to go to 0-1. He tossed 3.2 innings and allowed four runs. Sophomores Blake Brannon and Josh Ruffin tossed an inning in relief, while Tritz and Danielson finished the game on the mound. Sophomore Michael McKennon, senior Eric Moreno and juniors Ryan Crew and Lee Todesco each had hits for the Roadrunners, with Todesco keeping a four-game hitting streak alive. Stubbs went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Johnston went 2-for-5 with three runs knocked in as well for the Longhorns. UTSA returns home on Thursday to begin a three-game series with Dallas Baptist. The first pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Wolff Stadium, while Friday’s contest is also at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Roadrunners and Patriots face each other at 2 p.m. -UTSA- |
