John Millsap and Andre Owens Power UTSA Past The Bobcats

SAN ANTONIO - John Millsap scored 24 points, while Andre Owens added 19 as the UTSA Roadrunners scored an 88-69 victory over the Texas State Bobcats on Saturday afternoon before 2,350 fans at the UTSA Convocation Center.
With the win, UTSA improves to 11-10 overall and 6-4 in Southland Conference play. The Roadrunners had four players in double figures as Rapheal Posey added 17 points, and Justin Harbert, 13.
Texas State, 11-11 and 5-6, was led by Zach Allison and Josh Naylor with 13 points apiece, while Roderick Adams added 11.
Trailing 42-35 at halftime, Texas State opened the final half with a 9-1 run and led 44-43 on a 3-point field goal by Naylor with 18:16 to play.
UTSA answered with a 7-0 run of their own and never trailed again. The Roadrunners led 50-44 on a free throw by Anthony Fuqua with 15:19 to play.
After Texas State cut the lead to 52-50, UTSA went on an 18-7 run and led 70-57 on a Millsap basket with 7:14 remaining.
The Bobcats could get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way as UTSA was able to connect on 53.0 percent of its shots from the field. Millsap had 16 of his points in the second half.
Owens had all 19 of his points in the first half as UTSA opened as much as 12-point advantage before settling for a 42-35 halftime lead. Owens connected on seven of nine shots from the field, including three 3-point field goals in the first 20 minutes.
"I was pleased with the effort tonight and I thought we played a smart game," said UTSA coach Tim Carter, who watched his team turn the ball over a season-low nine times against Texas State. "I thought we played outstanding defense on Naylor, limiting him to 13 points on 13 shots."
UTSA will return to action this Thursday, Feb. 17 with a 7:45 p.m. game at conference leader Southeastern Louisiana.
