Box Score

BEAUMONT, Texas – Jeremy Long led four Lamar players in double figures with 19 points as the Cardinals scored 85-68 victory over the UTSA Roadrunners Saturday night at the Montagne Center.

Lamar, which broke a six-game losing streak to UTSA, improved to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in the Southland Conference. Rashid Beard added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals.

UTSA, which lost its third straight game, was led by Justin Harbert with 19 points, while Ray Selvage added 14. UTSA fell to 9-10 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

Trailing only briefly in the first half, Lamar pulled out to a 43-30 halftime lead as Long had 11 points.

The Cardinals opened the second half with a 15-2 run and led 58-32 after two Alan Daniels free throws with 13:57 remaining.

With UTSA cold from the field, shooting 22-of-61 for the game, the Roadrunners could get no closer than 17 points the rest of the way.

“It was again a night where I thought we got good shots, but weren’t able to convert,” said UTSA coach Tim Carter. “We are really going to work on our shooting this week in practice.”

UTSA was outrebounded for only the fifth time this season as Lamar held a 50-40 advantage on the glass.

The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Texas-Arlington with tip off at 7 p.m.
