Dupree posts national leader in winning Houston Indoor Invitational pentathlon Day One Results
HOUSTON - UTSA junior All-American Ryanne Dupree (San Antonio, Texas/East Central HS) bettered her own school record with a national-leading and NCAA provisional-qualifying point total of 3,942 in winning the Houston Indoor Invitational pentathlon Friday evening at Bill Yeoman Field House.
Dupree scored at least 750 points in four of the five events in beating runner-up Krystal Ward of Houston (3,878) by 64 points for her national leader. Tamara McGill of Pittsburgh had the nation’s best mark of 3,893 points entering the weekend. Dupree’s tally was a 21-point improvement from her previous personal-best of 3,921 posted last year at the McDonald’s Last Chance Qualifier in Moscow, Idaho. Dupree, who won the 2004 Southland Conference title in the pentathlon with 3,800 points, finished 11th at the NCAA Indoor Championships last year with 3,825 points.
Dupree posted marks of 8.60 in the 60-meter hurdles, 5-5 1/4 in the high jump, 35-6 in the shot put, 19-2 in the long jump and 2:25.00 in the 800m.
Freshman teammate Ashley Allen (Buffalo Gap, Texas/Jim Ned) finished fifth in her first collegiate pentathlon, scoring 3,409 points. She recorded marks of 9.33 in the 60m hurdles, 5-1 3/4 in the high jump, 34-4 1/4 in the shot put, 16-7 3/4 in the long jump and 2:27.22 in the 800m.
On the men’s side, junior Brandon Buteaux (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill) is in third place after day on the heptathlon. He scored 2,904 points behind marks of 7.21 in the 60m, 21-9 in the long jump, 41-11 1/4 in the shot put and 6-2 3/4 in the high jump.
Junior Bryan Wolfe (Raymondville, Texas) is in sixth with 2,750 points. Donovan Kilmartin of Texas leads the competition with 3,235 points.
The Houston Indoor Invitational continues Saturday.
