ARLINGTON, Texas – UTSA junior Meagan Daniel recorded 15 kills, but Texas State’s Elizabeth Nwoke put down 18 winners to key a 30-20, 30-25, 30-27 victory over the Roadrunners Sunday afternoon in the championship match of the Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament at Texas Hall.

With the win, the Bobcats (17-14) advance to their second consecutive NCAA Tournament. UTSA ends its season at 18-11 with the loss in the program’s second-ever appearance in the SLC Championship match.

Daniel had 15 kills, her 25th double-digit outing of the year, giving her 45 kills for the weekend. Juniors Connie Picard and Brittany Hildebrand added nine and seven kills, respectively, while redshirt freshman Victoria Prior added six to give her 36 winners in the tournament and a spot on the all-tournament team. Senior Julia Hunter added four kills, all in game three, for 34 this weekend, also earning a spot on the all-tournament team. Junior Erin McMillan led all players with 21 digs, her 12th 20-dig match of the season.

Nwoke, the tournament most valuable player, led all players with 18 to give her 50 for the weekend. Lawrencia Brown added 14 kills, while Erin Hickman recorded 44 assists. Brown and Karry Griffin led a Texas State block that recorded nine on the afternoon with five block assists apiece.

Texas State built an early 9-3 lead in game one and never looked back. The deficit grew to as much as 12 at 27-15 before UTSA cut it to nine at 28-19 on a kill by Picard. The Bobcats held on for the 30-20 win, getting a kill from St. Francis and a Roadrunner service error for the win.

The Bobcats kept the momentum in game two, blitzing out to a 19-10 lead. UTSA cut into a 28-20 deficit late, pulling to within four at 29-25 on a kill by Daniel. Texas State thwarted the rally on a kill by Griffin.

UTSA came alive in game three, taking its first lead of the day at 2-1 and eventually building a five-point advantage at 20-15 on a kill by Prior. Texas State would rally, though, knotting the game at 25-all on a Roadrunner ball handling error. The Bobcats took the lead for good on an attack error and held on for the 30-27 win.
