SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA volleyball program announced Tuesday the signing of Shannon Walker (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron HS) and Brandi Wall (Kansas City, Kan./Piper HS) to National Letters of Intent. The duo will join the Roadrunners on campus for the fall 2006 season.
Walker, a 6-1 outside hitter, is a three-year letterwinner for head coach Karin Keeney at Hebron High School in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. She has helped lead the Hawks to a 41-5 record and their second consecutive UIL Class 4A State Tournament where they will defend their 2004 state crown this weekend in San Marcos. A first team all-district selection as a junior, Walker was recently named to Prep Volleyball’s Top 250 Senior Recruits for 2006 list. Walker played three years of club volleyball for the Texas Advantage, helping the team achieve a ranking of 22nd in the U.S. Junior Nationals Open Division in 2005.
“Shannon will not only add some height to our roster but a ton of playing experience, as well,” head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff said. “For a big kid, she can handle the ball well which will allow her to be able to play outside or middle.”
Wall, a 6-2 middle blocker, is a four-year letterwinner for head coach Tara Rexroat at Piper High School in Kansas City, Kan. A two-time All-Kansan and three-time all-district selection, Wall helped lead the Pirates to a 21-15 record this fall. A veteran of the club circuit, Wall played seven years with the Mid-America Volleyball Club, helping the squad finish first at regionals for three consecutive years in 2002-04 and fifth at Junior Olympic Nationals in 2004.
“Brandi adds some height and power to our middle position,” Groff said. “She is a great blocker and will compete for playing time right away.” |
