SFA snaps UTSA’s home win streak at 10 with 32-30, 30-23, 30-25 sweep

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO – Junior Meagan Daniel posted her 12th double-double of the season, but Laura Cramer had 18 kills and 15 digs to help lead the Stephen F. Austin volleyball team to a 32-30, 30-23, 30-25 victory over UTSA Friday night at the Convocation Center.

The loss snapped the Roadrunners’ home court winning streak at 10 matches and dropped their record to 14-9 overall and 10-5 in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks won their 16th straight contest to improve to 23-2 and 15-0.

Daniel registered team highs with 15 kills and 15 digs as she reached double digits in winners for the 19th time in 23 matches this season. Senior Julia Hunter added 11 digs, while junior Connie Picard pitched in with six kills and a block.

Cramer led all players with 18 kills and helped keep the Ladyjacks winning streak alive with 15 digs, two service aces and two blocks for a match-high 21.5 points. Traci Rhode posted 11 kills and four blocks, while Lauren Railey added eight winners and 13 digs.

UTSA fought back from a 7-4 deficit in game one with a 9-5 run for a 13-9 lead. SFA rallied to knot the score at 16-all and hung tight, eventually taking the lead back at 23-22 on a UTSA attack error. After a Hunter kill tied it at 23-23, the Ladyjacks ran off four straight points for a 27-23 advantage on a Cramer putdown. The two teams traded points for four serves until SFA earned its first game point at 29-25 with a kill by Railey. Back-to-back kills by Daniel and Picard cut the deficit to 29-27 and following a Ladyjack timeout, two SFA errors tied the score at 29-all. A service error by both squads left it tied at 30-all until a Railey kill and a ball handling error call on UTSA pushed SFA to the 32-30 victory.

SFA used that momentum to build an early 13-6 out of the blocks in game two. The Ladyjacks kept the pressure on, building a 19-9 lead, but UTSA answered with a 7-0 run to pull within three at 19-16 on a block by Daniel and senior Jennifer Emelogu. The Ladyjacks held off the Roadrunners from there, using an 11-7 run to end it, 30-23.

UTSA used a 3-0 run for a 13-11 lead in game three only to have SFA fight back from a 16-14 deficit with a 5-2 run for a 19-16 lead. The Roadrunners rallied to tie it at 20-all on a Ladyjack attack error but were never able to regain the lead as SFA held on for the 30-25 victory.

The Roadrunners host Sam Houston State in their final home match of the season on Saturday at 4 p.m.
