SAN ANTONIO - Lori Cook has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the UTSA softball program, head coach Corrie Hill announced Tuesday.
Cook was instrumental in helping UTSA win its first-ever Southland Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2004. The Roadrunners also earned their first NCAA Tournament berth and finished with the second-most victories in school history (37).
“I am very pleased to be able to announce Coach Cook’s promotion,” Hill said. “Her experience, commitment and loyalty to the players, the program and myself are second to none. She is very deserving of this promotion and I am pleased UTSA has matched her commitment and loyalty to the program in granting her this promotion. I look forward to our continued working relationship in making the UTSA softball team a continued success, both academically and athletically.
Cook came to UTSA from Baylor where she coached pitchers and catchers in 1999-2000. She served as travel coordinator and camp director, implementing the first softball camp on campus.
Cook was an assistant coach at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, Calif., in 1996-98 after beginning her coaching career at Cal State Hayward in 1990-91 and Napa Valley College in 1991-95. She also was head coach for the Peanuts Professional Softball Club in Italy in 1995-96.
Cook played two years at Napa Valley College in Napa, Calif., where she was named All-Bay Valley Conference for two years and league MVP in 1988. She helped lead Napa Valley to back-to-back conference titles.
Cook then moved on to Nebraska where she lettered two years in 1989-90. She led the nationally-ranked Cornhuskers in hitting and was second in RBI in 1990. She played professional softball in Italy in 1992.
Cook graduated from the UTSA in May 2002 with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology. She previously received an associate’s degree in behavioral science from Napa Valley College in 1988.
UTSA opens the 2005 campaign with a three-game series at Arizona State on Friday-Sunday, Feb. 4-6, in Tempe, Ariz.
