SAN ANTONIO – Junior Meagan Daniel recorded nine of her team-high 18 kills in the final two games as the UTSA volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit and scored a 30-28, 27-30, 21-30, 30-26, 15-9 victory against Lamar Saturday night at the Convocation Center.

With the win, the Roadrunners extend their home-court winning streak to nine matches and improve to 13-8 overall and 10-4 in the Southland Conference. The Lady Cardinals fall to 5-18 and 3-8.

Daniel helped wake up UTSA with eight kills in game four and turned in her second consecutive and 11th overall double-double of the year with 18 winners, her 18th double-digit match, and 14 digs. Redshirt freshman Victoria Prior posted a career-high 14 kills and three blocks, while juniors Connie Picard (13) and Brittany Hildebrand (10) and senior Julia Hunter (10) also reached double figures.

Junior DeeDee Strickland registered a match-high 60 assists and 12 digs for her 10th double-double and junior Erin McMillan had a team-best 19 digs, one of four Roadrunners in double digits as freshman Audrey Hiser also had 10. Senior Jennifer Emelogu posted a team-high four blocks, including one solo.

Nikki Perry led the Cardinals with 19 kills, while Buchi Okoh and Lauren Rush added 18 and 12, respectively. Alyssa Parks turned in a match-high 30 digs, while Courtney Mitchell had 10 blocks.

Daniel helped the Roadrunners come alive in game four with four early kills that helped UTSA build a 10-7 lead out of the gates. Lamar kept it close and eventually knotted the score at 25-all on a kill by Okoh. UTSA answered with three straight kills by Daniel, Hildebrand and Picard and held on for the 30-26 decision after another Picard putdown and a Lamar attack error.

Playing just its third game five of the season, UTSA used a 5-1 run to break open a tight contest for a 12-7 lead on a Prior kill. The Cardinals cut the lead to four on a UTSA attack error, but a dump for the kill by the setter Strickland and a Lamar attack error gave the Roadrunners match point at 14-8, Okoh provided one last hope for the Cardinals with her 18th kill but another Strickland kill by virtue of a blocking error call on Okoh clinched the match for the Roadrunners.

Lamar rallied from a 29-24 deficit in game one to within one, but UTSA held on for the 30-28 victory on a Daniel kill. The Cardinals came back from an 11-8 deficit in game two with a 12-2 run to make it 20-13 and eventually built a 28-21 lead on a kill by Mitchell. The Roadrunners mounted a late rally that cut it to 28-27 on a service ace by Strickland, but the Cardinals answered with a kill by Adams and won it on a UTSA attack error, 30-27.

Game three was controlled by the Cardinals as they broke a 15-all tie with a 9-1 run in building a 24-16 advantage. UTSA would get no closer than seven as Lamar cruised to the 2-1 lead with the 30-21 victory.

The Roadrunners return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 30, with a non-conference home match against Northern Colorado at 4 p.m.
