UTSA stays undefeated at home with 79-71 victory over Louisiana Tech

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO - Andre Owens led five players in double figures with 20 points as the UTSA Roadrunners led from start to finish in scoring a 79-71 victory over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Convocation Center.

UTSA improved its overall record to 4-2 and is now 4-0 at the Convocation Center this season. The win was UTSA's first-ever against Louisiana Tech, which still owns the lead in the all-time series by a 3-1 mark.

Owens was joined in double figures by John Millsap, who added 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Rapheal Posey and Ray Selvage added 11 points apiece and David President scored 10. President added seven assists, four rebounds and four steals.

Louisiana Tech, which fell to 3-4 with the loss, was led by Paul Millsap with 30 points and 13 rebounds, while Corey Dean added 10.

"It was good all-around team effort today," said UTSA coach Tim Carter. "I thought we competed from the very beginning and that was a big difference. To score a win over a team like Louisiana Tech from the Western Athletic Conference is big for our program."

UTSA started the game on a 21-8 scoring and never looked back. John Millsap had eight of those early points.

A 40-foot 3-point field goal by President at the first half buzzer helped stake the Roadrunners to a 38-25 halftime cushion.

Louisiana Tech, which connected on only 7 of 26 free throws in the game, could never get closer than five points the rest of the second half as Owens had 15 of his points over the final 20 minutes.

A 3-point field by Jason Bray brought Louisiana Tech within 76-71 with 39 seconds to play, but the Bulldogs could get no closer as UTSA answered with a free throw by John Millsap, followed by a Owens layup for the final margin.

UTSA out-rebounded an opponent for the sixth straight game this season by holding a 45-37 edge on the glass over Louisiana Tech.

The Roadrunners will return to action on Dec. 18 at Kansas State, with a tipoff at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on the Roadrunner Radio Network (KKYX 680 AM and goUTSA.com) beginning at 6:45 p.m.
