McDonald named Southland Conference Women’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year
PLANO, Texas - Texas-San Antonio junior Ashley McDonald (San Antonio, Texas/East Central) has been named 2004 Southland Conference Women’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday.
McDonald has compiled a perfect 4.00 grade point average in accounting and has made the Dean’s List each semester at UTSA and the National Dean’s List in 2003 and 2004. McDonald also was named Who’s Who Among American College Students.
Athletically, McDonald placed eighth at last month’s Southland Conference Cross Country Championship meet, helping the Roadrunners to a third-place showing. She ran the 6,000-meter course in a time of 22:05. During the regular season, McDonald was twice named SLC Athlete of the Week.
In the San Antonio community, McDonald is a member of the Golden Key International Society and she is a volunteer for the UTSA Women’s Walk Scholarship Fundraiser and UIL Region 4 Cross Country meets.
Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rodney Joseph was named SLC Men’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year by the league’s awards’ committee.
The student-athlete of the year is annually presented to the individual in each conference sport who achieves excellence in academics, athletics and community/campus service. Nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average to go along with superior athletics achievement.
