Five Roadrunners score in double figures as UTSA downs Texas A&M International, 86-68

SAN ANTONIO - Senior John Millsap tied a career-high with 15 points, while Ray Selvage added 14 points and 10 rebounds as UTSA never trailed in scoring an 86-68 victory over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils on Sunday night at the UTSA Convocation Center.
UTSA, 3-0, placed five players in double figures as David President added 13 points while freshmen Roderick Rodgers and Adam McCoy added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
TAMIU, which fell to 0-5 with the loss, was led by Keith Simpson with 16 points, while Andre Watson scored 15.
"I was very pleased with the effort because I thought we played extremely hard tonight," said UTSA coach Tim Carter. "We had some guys step up and play major minutes tonight that hadn't been accustomed to doing so this season."
The Roadrunners opened the first half with a 13-3 run as Millsap scored five points.
UTSA stretched the advantage to a 49-29 halftime advantage as Selvage had nine points in the opening 20 minutes. The Roadrunners connected on 20 of 40 first half field goal attempts.
With Rodgers scoring 10 of his points in the second half, UTSA built its cushion to as many as 27 points, 71-44, on a layup by the freshman with 11:55 to play.
The Dustdevils put together an 18-7 run and cut the UTSA lead to 78-62 with 6:03 remaining on a basket by Kyle Edwards.
President responded with five points down the stretch as UTSA was able to hold on for the victory.
UTSA shot 45.5 percent from the field for the game and outrebounded TAMIU, 51-40.
The Roadrunners played the game without starting guard Rapheal Posey, who was nursing a bruised thigh.
The Roadrunners will return to action on Dec. 1 with a 7:15 game at Murray State. The game can be heard on the Roadrunner Radio Network (KKYX 680 AM, goUTSA.com) beginning at 7 p.m.
