UTSA claims women's title while Texas prevails in men's race at I-35 Cross Country Challenge
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Ashley McDonald led a string of six UTSA finishers in the top 10 as the UTSA women scored dual team victories over Texas and Texas State on Monday evening at the I-35 Cross Country Challenge held at UTSA.
On the men's side, Texas scored wins over UTSA and Texas State, as Longhorn Matt Caterisano covered the two-mile course in 9:27 to win the individual title.
McDonald ran a time of 11:35 over the course and was the top collegiate runner behind UTSA alumnus Leticia Cerna who ran unattached and covered the course in 11:17. Other top-10 finishers for UTSA included Rita Lambert in third, Katherine King in fifth, Briana Mendez in seventh, Anne Marie Hollowell in eighth and Karilyn Petty in ninth.
UTSA's top place in the men's race was senior Henry Maruping in sixth place in a time of 9:49. Jaziel Crisostomo was seventh, Michael Schwartz finished eighth and David Stonestreet placed 10th.
The meet was UTSA's final tuneup before the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships to be held next Monday, Nov. 1 in Beaumont, Texas
