Dyes to be inducted into Corpus Christi Ray High Athletic Hall of Fame

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Assistant women’s track and field coach Jerry Dyes will be one of eight individuals inducted into the Corpus Christi W.B. Ray High School Fighting Texan Athletic Hall of Fame in a ceremony as part of a day full of hall of fame festivities on Friday, Oct. 22.

The honorees will be introduced at the Fighting Texan pep rally Friday morning and then formally presented and inducted into the Hall of Fame before students, alumni, family and guests of honor in the school’s new gymnasium. A noon lunch follows and the honorees will be introduced again Friday night at the football game between Ray and Corpus Christi King at Buccaneer Stadium.

As head track and field and cross country coach from 1964-70, Dyes guided Ray to two state titles, claiming the 1965 Class 4A track and field and the 1965 4A cross country crowns. Under his tutelege, Texans set 12 school records that still stand today.

Dyes left Ray for head coaching positions at Northwestern State, Louisiana Tech and his alma mater Abilene Christian.
