| Oct. 8, 2004 Roadrunners down Louisiana-Monroe, 3-1 SAN ANTONIO – Sophomore DeeDee Strickland (League City, Texas) recorded 51 assists and 10 digs and sophomore Brittany Hildebrand (Converse, Texas/Judson) led three Roadrunners in double-digit kills as the UTSA volleyball team downed Louisiana-Monroe, 30-25,30-19, 26-30, 30-19, Friday night at the Convocation Center. With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 8-9 overall and 5-3 in the Southland Conference. The Indians fall to 5-13 and 0-8. The 51 assists and 10 digs gave Strickland her fifth double-double of the season. Hildebrand registered 14 kills and a .400 hitting percentage to lead a UTSA attack that out hit Louisiana-Monroe, .209-.100. UTSA also posted a season-high 11 aces with three from Hildebrand and two apiece from Strickland, junior Julia Hunter (Peoria, Ariz.) and senior Brandace Cantu (San Antonio, Texas/Edison) Sophomore Connie Picard (Spring, Texas) added 13 kills and seven block assists, while sophomore Meagan Daniel (Hereford, Texas) pitched in with 10 kills and nine digs. Lindsey Ehlert, a product of San Antonio O’Connor High School, led ULM with 11 kills. The Roadrunners opened game one with a quick 9-5 lead. The Indians managed to get within one point as late as 22-21, but UTSA held on for a 30-25 victory. UTSA hit .200 for the game, compared to ULM’s -.032. Hildebrand led the attack with six kills, while Emelogu added four. The Indians built an early 3-1 lead in game two, but UTSA quickly tied things up at 3-3. The Roadrunners then used a 13-6 run behind strong serving from Hildebrand to open up a 16-9 lead. ULM cut the lead to three at 17-14, but the Roadrunners ended the frame on a 13-5 run, the last two points coming on a pair of aces by Hunter. ULM came out fired up for game three, opening on an 8-3 run. UTSA got as close as 12-8, but the Indians built a nine-point advantage at 21-12. The Roadrunners again trimmed the lead to three at 24-21, but ULM held on for a 30-26 victory to send the match to a fourth game. The Roadrunners controlled game four from the start, posting a 10-3 advantage behind a strong middle attack from Picard, who posted five kills in the game. The Indians never got any closer than 12-8 and UTSA cruised to a 30-19 win to clinch the match, out-hitting ULM, .316-.152 in the game. The Roadrunners conclude a six-match home stand against Northwestern State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
