Daniel, McMillan sweep SLC Volleyball Player of the Week honors

PLANO, Texas - UTSA sophomores Meagan Daniel (Hereford, Texas) and Erin McMillan (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill) have been named Southland Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Daniel and McMillan helped lead the Roadrunners (7-8, 4-2 SLC) to a 2-1 record last week with a 3-0 victory over Sam Houston State and a 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana. Nicholls State halted UTSA’s win streak with a 3-0 sweep on Saturday.

Daniel, the 2003 SLC Freshman of the Year and a first team all-conference selection at outside hitter, posted double-doubles in all three matches last week, giving her eight for the year and five in six conference matches. She registered 17 kills apiece in the victories over Sam Houston State and Southeastern Louisiana and turned in 10 kills and 15 digs (zero reception errors) in the 3-0 loss to Nicholls State. For the week, Daniel recorded 44 kills (4.40 kpg), 48 digs (4.84 dpg), 47.5 points (47.5 ppg) and a .254 hitting percentage.

McMillan, an honorable mention all-league choice last year, picked up her second Defensive Player of the Week accolade with three solid outings last week. She registered 51 digs (5.10 dpg) against just one reception error, including a match-high 21 digs in the 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana. She added 20 digs in the 3-0 loss to Nicholls State, giving her 13 double-digit performances for the season. McMillan also received the weekly honor on Sept. 20.

The Roadrunners host I-35 rival Texas State on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
