SAN MARCOS – Behind three top-10 finishes, the UTSA men’s cross country team won the Texas State Invitational title Saturday at Gary Job Corps. The Roadrunners finished second to Texas in the women’s team race.
The UTSA men edged Texas State by five points, 54-59, to win the team title. Freshman Michael Schwartz (Keller, Texas) led all Roadrunners, finishing fifth in 28:15 over the 8,000-meter loop. Freshmen Keith Cameron and Jaziel Crisostomo (Austin, Texas) also posted top-10 finishes, placing seventh (28:22) and eighth (28:23), respectively. Freshman Nick Perez (San Antonio, Texas) and Dustin Reidel rounded out the top five in 12th (28:38) and 14th (28:47), respectively.
The UTSA women were runners-up to Texas, 39-53, after a scoring error originally gave the team title to UTSA, 41-44. Juniors Ashley McDonald (San Antonio, Texas) and Meghan Chance (San Antonio, Texas) finished fourth (18:48) and sixth (18:51), respectively, to lead the Roadrunners on the 4,800-meter course. Freshman Ann Marie Hollowell (Portland, Texas) placed 18th (19:46), while junior Rita Lambert (20th, 19:51) and senior Chonna Wright (21st, 19:57) rounded out the scorers for the Roadrunners.
UTSA returns to action on Friday, Sept. 17, when it travels to College Station to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational.
