UTSA Men's Basketball announces 2004-05 schedule

2004-05 Schedule

SAN ANTONIO - The University of Texas at San Antonio men’s basketball coach Tim Carter announced that the Roadrunners will play a 27-game schedule in 2004-2005 that features non-conference home games with Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State, as well as road contests at Texas and Kansas State.

Defending Southland Conference (SLC) regular season and tournament champion from a year ago, UTSA will be playing three teams -- Texas Lutheran, Texas A&M International and Murray State -- for the first time in school history.

"We play a tough schedule that will allow us to hopefully get some early momentum at home and will help us grow as a team against very tough competition in December," Carter said. "With two games against teams from the Big 12 Conference as well as the games with Murray State, Wichita State, New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech, we feel those will get us ready for conference play when we tip that off in January."

The regular season opens with three straight home games as UTSA plays host to Texas-Tyler on Nov. 21, followed by Texas Lutheran (Nov. 24) and Texas A&M International on Nov. 28.

December will practically be a month-long road trip with the Roadrunners visiting Murray State (Dec. 1), Louisiana Tech (Dec. 4), Kansas State (Dec. 18), Wichita State (Dec. 21) and Texas (Dec. 29). Only a Dec. 12 home game with Louisiana Tech will break up the road swing.

Non-conference play continues in early January when UTSA hosts New Mexico State on Jan. 3 in the Convocation Center. It will be the first-ever visit to San Antonio by the Aggies. The eleventh and final non-conference game will be played on Jan. 17 at Texas-Pan American.

SLC home games will be played against Nicholls State (Jan. 14), Northwestern State (Jan. 22), Southeastern Louisiana (Jan. 29), Sam Houston State (Feb. 3), Texas State (Feb. 12), Lamar (Feb. 23), Texas-Arlington (Feb. 26), and Stephen F. Austin (March 1). The game with Stephen F. Austin will be a rematch of last year’s SLC Tournament championship game.

The regular season will conclude with UTSA traveling to San Marcos to play Texas State on March 4.

The SLC Tournament will be played March 7-11 at home sites, with the top eight teams in the league participating to see who wins the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

UTSA returns eight lettermen from a team that went 19-14 last season and appeared as a program in its third NCAA Tournament. The Roadrunners will be led by four returning starters, including guard/forward Rapheal Posey, who averaged 11.4 points per a game last season.
