UTSA's Rose Monday wins U.S. Olympic Trials Masters 800m 

SAN ANTONIO - UTSA head cross country and assistant track and field coach Rose Monday won the Masters (ages 40+) women's 800-meter run on Saturday at the United States Olympic Track and Field Trials in Sacramento, Calif. 

Monday, who is entering her fourth season at UTSA, edged Mary Thane of Mountain West Track Club to win the title in the event on the country's biggest stage. She clocked a 2:16.42 ahead of Thane's 2:16.57 for the victory.

Monday was the 1985 national indoor champion in the 800m and won the 2001 Masters World Championship gold medal in Australia. She was ranked in the top 10 in the world in the half-mile from 1983-92 and has competed in four previous Olympic Trials. Monday also currently serves as the U.S. Track and Field Chair of Development for Distance Runners.
