Trio of Roadrunners selected to Southland Conference Track and Field All-Academic Teams

PLANO, Texas - UTSA sophomores Meghan Chance, Ryanne Dupree and Bryan Wolfe have been selected to the 2004 Southland Conference Track and Field All-Academic Teams, the league office announced Wednesday.

Chance, a double-major in psychology and history from San Antonio Reagan, is a first team CoSIDA Academic All-District VI selection and a three-time UTSA President's List member. She also was named the 2004 SLC Indoor Female Student-Athlete of the Year and is active in the UTSA Student-Athlete Advisory Board, the Golden Key Honor Society and the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Chance was a member of UTSA's conference champion indoor distance medley relay team and qualified for the 800m and 1,500m finals at the SLC Outdoor meet.

Dupree, a psychology major from San Antonio East Central, recently garnered her first All-America honor with a seventh-place finish in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last week in Austin, Texas. A member of the Dean's List, Dupree won heptathlon titles at Texas Relays and Drake Relays and was the SLC champion in the indoor pentathlon and the outdoor 100m hurdles.

Wolfe, a math major from Raymondville, Texas, finished fifth in the decathlon at the SLC Outdoor Championships in May. A member of the Dean's List, Wolfe also posted a fourth-place finish in the decathlon at Whataburger Relays and a trio of runner-up finishes in the javelin, long jump and triple jump at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Invitational.

UTSA tied with McNeese State and Texas-Arlington for the second-most all-academic team picks behind Sam Houston State with four.

The all-academic teams, voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators, honors those who have earned at least a 3.00 grade point average while serving as a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing within the institution and must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution.

Kajsa Haglund and Erik Petersson of Texas-Arlington were named SLC Outdoor Track and Field Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year.
