AUSTIN, Texas – UTSA senior two-time All-American Justin Youngblood is in sixth place after day one of the men’s decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Youngblood, from Goliad, has scored 4,008 points through five events of the grueling, 10-event competition. He stands 224 points off the pace of 4,232 established by Ryan Harlan of Rice and is only 24 points behind Maurice Smith of Auburn for fifth place (4,032).
Following the first two events, Youngblood was in second after running 10.84 in the 100 meters and leaping 24-1 ˝ in the long jump, the best mark in the field of 25. After a 43-2 ˝ measure in the shot put, the 2004 Southland Conference Indoor Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year cleared 6-8 in the high jump and clocked 52.47 in the 400m to round out his day.
The decathlon continues Saturday beginning with the 110m hurdles at noon.
