| May 28, 2004 Contact: Kyle Stephens (210) 458-4907 Carl Johnson makes Midwest Regional men’s 110m hurdles final Results COLLEGE STATION, Texas – UTSA senior Carl Johnson qualified for the men’s 110-meter hurdles final to highlight day one action for the Roadrunner track and field teams at the NCAA Midwest Regional at Texas A&M’s Anderson Track Complex.
Johnson (La Vernia, Texas) clocked a 13.89 to finish second in his heat of the high hurdles to Nebraska’s Nenad Loncar, who posted the fastest qualifying time of the day, a 13.80. Johnson’s 13.89 was the fourth-fastest of the day and his second-best effort of the season behind his Southland Conference winning time of 13.84 on May 17. The top nine qualifiers will race in the finals on Saturday at approximately 6:40 p.m.
Sophomore Marques Mitchell (Converse, Texas) raced to a 14.27 clocking to finish fifth in his heat and 14th overall.
In other preliminary action for the Roadrunners, sophomore Ryanne Dupree (San Antonio, Texas) finished seventh in her heat of the 100m hurdles with a 13.68 clocking. That effort was just off her season-best of 13.65 posted in winning the SLC Outdoor crown two weeks ago. Dupree also leaped 18-6 to finish 22nd in the long jump.
Freshman Larry Brooks (Stafford, Texas) posted a 1:50.70 to place seventh in his heat of the 800m, just missing the final with the 11th fastest time.
Junior Curtis Johnson (Pampa, Texas) posted a 10.53 in the 100m and a 21.03 in the 200m prelims. Junior Rosalind Holmes (Kerens, Texas) clocked an 11.84 in the women’s 100m prelims, while senior Jessica Snitkoff posted a season-best 23.78 to finish fourth in her heat and 13th overall in the 200m.
The Midwest Regional continues Saturday beginning with the field events at noon and the running finals at 6 p.m.
