UTSA Today

UTSA makes a return trip to the SLC Tournament for the first time since 2001, head coach Sherman Corbett's first year at the helm. It is the sixth time the Roadrunners have been to the postseason since the start of baseball at UTSA in 1992. The Runners only tournament crown came in 1994 in their first trip. UTSA is 9-8 all-time in tournament games and 1-2 under Corbett.

The Series:
UTSA vs. Lamar
The Cardinals have a narrow lead the all-time series with the Roadrunners by the count of 13-12. Lamar took the season series earlier this year, 2-1, with 9-2 and 16-0 wins, while UTSA took the middle game, 8-6 in a 16-inning thriller. The Runners and Cardinals have never met in the postseason.

Last Time Out

5/22 Texas-Arlington completes sweep of UTSA
ARLINGTON, Texas - UTSA senior Aaron Semper was 2-for-3 with the team's only RBI, but UTA pushed one run across in the bottom of the ninth to break a 1-1 tie for a 2-1 win over the Roadrunners Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Park.

At the Helm
Fourth year head coach Sherman Corbett is the third skipper in UTSA baseball history. With an overall record of 84-85 (.429) entering the 2004 season, Corbett has posted more wins in his first three seasons than either coach before him.

On Deck

With a win, the Roadrunners advance in the winner's bracket to play the loser of the No. 3 Texas State-No. 4 Texas-Arlington game on Thursday at 3 p.m. A loss puts UTSA in the 11 a.m. game on Thursday against the loser of the No. 2 Northwestern State-No. 5 Louisiana-Monroe game.

All-SLC

Three Roadrunners have been named to the All-Southland Conference squads with sophomore shortstop Ryan Crew leading the way on the first team. It is Crew's, who was the 2003 SLC Freshman of the Year, second all-conference honor. Senior pitcher Klae Boehme and designated hitter Lucas Stewart were each given a third team nod.

Hot Hitter

Senior designated hitter Lucas Stewart picked up co-Southland Conference Hitter of the Week honors on May 10 after leading UTSA to a 3-0 sweep of Sam Houston State in the final home weekend. Stewart went 8 -for-14 on the week with two home runs, nine RBI, five runs and three walks.

Going, Going, Gone

Junior Chris Lewis' SLC-leading 15th home run of the year moves the outfielder into a third place tie on UTSA's single-season home runs list. The last Runner to notch double-digit homers was Mark Schramek with 11 in 2002.

Big Johns
On Apr. 28 sophomore catcher Robbie Johns drove in a career-best six runs against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 15-3 Roadrunner win. The last Runner to drive in six in a game was Jeff Juarez with seven against Yale in 1999.

Two-Baggers
Freshman right fielder Michael McKennon is tied for the most doubles in the SLC with 18 on the season. He has hit multiple two-baggers in a game on two occasions. UTSA's single-season record for doubles is 22 by Kent Wallis in 1999.

Mr. Multi
Hitting .312, sophomore shortstop Ryan Crew leads the team with a career-high 20 multi-hit and has the second-most multi-RBI games with 10. He has two four-hit performances and one five-RBI outing on the season.

Nine is Fine
Despite being out-scored 351-313 overall by opponents this season, UTSA has a commanding 47-18 advantage over the opposition in the ninth frame.

Southland Sluggers
UTSA's 52 home runs on the season currently leads the SLC and is the third-most in school history. The school record is 66 set in 1999. Junior outfielder Chris Lewis is pacing the team with 15 followed by Ryan Crew with eight and Lucas Stewart with seven.

The Century Mark
UTSA skipper Sherman Corbett reached 100 wins on Saturday, Apr. 3, in dramatic fashion with a 16-inning come-from-behind win over SLC opponent Lamar. With a career-record of 111-114, Corbett needs three wins to become UTSA's all-time winningest coach.

Extra, Extra
The Roadrunners are 6-1 in extra-inning games this season, having outscored opponents 8-1 in extra frames. It is the most extra-inning games played in a season by a UTSA squad.

Double Vision

On a day filled with season-high performances including runs (21), hits (20) and RBI (18) in UTSA's 21-6 win over UTPA, the Roadrunners set a new school record for doubles in a game, crushing 11 two-baggers and shattering the previous mark of seven set in 1995 and matched in 2002.

Saving Stewart
Senior utility man Lucas Stewart became UTSA's all-time saves leader notching the ninth of his career in his first mound appearance of 2004 on Sunday, March 7 in a 17-9 win against then No. 7 Notre Dame. He added his third save of the season in his third appearance to give him 11 for his career when he preserved a 5-1 win against SLC foe Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday. Along with a 4-3 record on the bump and a 4.10 ERA, he also boasts the team's third-highest batting average with a .297 clip as the designated hitter with seven home runs.
