UTSA falls 9-2 to Texas-Arlington Box Score
ARLINGTON, Texas – UTSA sophomore Lee Todesco was 4-for-4 with an RBI on the night, but it was not enough as the UTA offense exploded for 16 hits on the way to a 9-2 win over the Roadrunners Friday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.
UTA was on the board first, benefiting from a Roadrunner miscue in the first inning as Kasey Baker, who led off with a single, advanced to second on a sac bunt and stole third, came in on a grounder off the bat of Darrell Preston, which would have been the third out of the inning, but instead was thrown away by the UTSA shortstop.
The Mavs added two more in the second after Daniel Macha led off with a double followed by a walk to Dane Ryan. Both advanced a base on a double steal while a groundout by Paul Bruder plated Macha and a single by Baker brought home Ryan.
UTSA trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the third with Ryan Crew reaching base on an error, moving up on a single by Michael McKennon and scoring on a fielding error by the Mavs’ right fielder after Lee Todesco singled.
UTA extended the lead to 6-1 with a three-run third including RBI-singles from Baker and Ryan Nelson and a run-scoring double by Hunter Pence. The Mavs’ offense continued with two in the sixth and a one in the seventh on a solo home run by Nelson for a 9-1 advantage.
UTSA managed another run in the eighth with first baseman Todesco driving in Robbie Johns with his fourth hit of the night.
Mavs’ second baseman Baker fueled the UTA offense going 4-for-5 with three RBI, while Nelson, Macha, Lewis and Bruder were all 2-for-4, with Nelson and Bruder each adding two RBI. On the night, the Mavs outhit the Runners 16-8.
The Roadrunners and Mavericks play the final game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
