UTSA women fall to Texas-Arlington in SLC semifinals

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The UTSA women's tennis team ended its season Sunday with a 4-0 loss to No. 1 seed Texas-Arlington in the semifinal round of the Southland Conference Tournament Sunday at McNeese State's Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners cap the 2004 campaign with a 10-11 record.

Singles were played first due to the threat of rain. The Mavericks posted a pair of victories on courts three and four. Junior first-team all-conference player Massiel Martinez fell 6-2, 6-2 to Daniela Novakova at No. 3, while sophomore Barbara Mooney lost to Simri vonRooyen at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0.

SLC Player of the Year Paula Erausquin was locked in a tight battle at No. 1 with UTA's Monika Peciulionyte, splitting the first two sets. Freshman Ana Paula Soto lost to Jitka Vetrovcova at No. 6, 6-3, 6-1, and sophomore Nadezda Rossikhina fell to Marketa Cizova at No. 2, 6-4, 6-4.
