Brooks posts regional qualifier to lead UTSA men at Rice Twilight

HOUSTON - Freshman Larry Brooks posted an NCAA regional qualifier in the 800 meters to lead a solid effort by the UTSA men's track and field team Saturday at the Rice Twilight.

Brooks posted a season-best 1:49.69, more than two seconds faster than his previous season best, in finishing third in the "Prime" section of the 800m. The Rice duo of Adam Davis and David Pessing finished first (1:48.61) and second (1:48.76), respectively.

The Roadrunners turned in several other solid performances on the track. Junior Curtis Johnson finished second overall and first among collegiate competitors in the 200m with a 21.27 clocking. Freshman Scott Briscoe won the "B" section of the deuce in 21.81, just ahead of sophomore T.R. Sissel (21.83).

Curtis Johnson also sped to a 10.57 to beat all collegians and place second overall in the 100m. Senior Carl Johnson won the "B" section in 10.84.

Sophomore Marques Mitchell won the "B" 110m hurdles in 14.60, sophomore Joseph Burton took second among collegians and fourth overall in the javelin with a throw of 187-4 and the 4x400m relay team took runner-up honors with a 3:12.73 clocking.
