Roadrunners tied for lead after two rounds of SLC Men's Golf Championships First and Second Round Results
MAGNOLIA, Texas - The UTSA men's golf team moved from fourth place into a tie for first following the second round of the Southland Conference Championships Tuesday at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club (7,370 yards - par 72).
The Roadrunners carded a three-over-par 291 on Tuesday in catching first-round leader Louisiana-Monroe, who shot 300. Both teams are at two-over 578, three strokes up on Sam Houston State (581) and four up on three-time defending champion Lamar (582).
Individually, senior Mike Mezei (Lethrbidge, Alberta) remains in medalist contention after a second-round 77 to go with his opening-round 69 from Monday. He is in a four-way tie for 10th place at two-over 146, five shots behind leader Dustin Byrd of Stephen F. Austin (141).
Freshman Kitt Thabungkan (Bangkok, Thailand) moved from 45th all the way up to a tie for 14th after firing the low round of the day, a three-under 69. He and sophomore teammate John Elizondo (San Antonio, Texas/Brackenridge) two others share 14th place at three-over 147, while freshman Matt Johnston (Winnipeg, Manitoba), who led all golfers after round one with a six-under 66, fell to a tie for 26th after an 84 today (150). Senior Luke Healy (Del Rio, Texas) is tied for 33rd at 79-72=151.
The final round tees off Wednesday morning.
