PLANO, Texas - UTSA senior Leticia Cerna has been named Southland Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Cerna (San Antonio, Texas/West Campus) broke her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an NCAA regional-qualifying time of 10:47.54 in finishing ninth at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Cerna eclipsed her former standard of 10:53.72 set last year by six seconds and also posted a 2:11.06 clocking in the 800-meter run to finish 15th overall and 12th among collegians.
It marks the second straight week a Roadrunner has earned the conference weekly honor and the sixth time this year including the indoor season.
UTSA returns to the track this weekend with the women traveling to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays and the men going to Houston for the Rice Twilight.
