April 8, 2004 Contact: Kyle Stephens (210) 458-4907 UTSA women close out regular season with 5-2 win over Incarnate Word SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA women's tennis team closed out the 2004 regular season with a 5-2 win over the Incarnate Word Crusaders in a match played Thursday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners improved to 9-10 with the win, as Paula Erausquin, Massiel Martinez, Kateryna Romanenko and Ana Paula Soto won their respective singles matches. Romanenko, a senior from Kiev, Ukraine, stood out in her final home match, scoring a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sam Mangum at No. 4 singles.
UTSA claimed the doubles point as well, as Erausquin and Barbara Mooney won at No. 1 doubles, while Romanenko combined with Sonya Gonzales to win 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
UTSA will return to action on April 23-25 at the Southland Conference Tennis Championships to be held at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La.
