Last Time Out: 4/6 No. 2 Texas downs UTSA 4-2 AUSTIN, Texas - Senior designated hitter Lucas Stewart went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored the only two UTSA runs as the No. 2 Longhorns defeated the Roadrunners 4-2 Tuesday night at Disch-Falk Field.
After UTSA starter Aaron Rodriguez escaped a second and third no-outs jam in the opening frame, the Roadrunners took an early 1-0 lead in the second when Stewart hit a first-pitch home run to left field. The Longhorns evened the count in the bottom of the inning with Nick Peoples collecting his first RBI on the season, driving in Michael Hollimon, who reached on a fielder's choice.
Texas gained the lead in the third on a groundout by Carson Kainer that plated Curtis Thigpen after a leadoff walk. The Horns tacked on one more in the fourth beginning with a leadoff single by Drew Stubbs followed by a stolen base. Peoples' sac bunt put Stubbs on third and J.D. Reininger brought the runner home with another sac bunt to make it 3-1.
Seth Johnston picked up his second hit of the evening, a double, to lead off the fifth and went on to score on a sac fly by Russ as the Horns scored for the fourth consecutive inning.
UTSA made it 4-2 in the sixth with Lee Todesco driving in Stewart with a double to the gap in left-center. Despite stringing together three consecutive hits off Texas reliever Randy Boone, Mike McKennon was caught stealing for the second out of the inning quieting the Roadrunner rally.
Texas all-America pitcher Houston Street came on in relief in the final two innings to strike out three for the save.
