UTSA men fall to Texas-Arlington, 7-0 SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Texas-Arlington moved into sole possession of second place in the Southland Conference standings with a 7-0 win over Texas-San Antonio at the UTSA Tennis center here Saturday afternoon.
UTA captured wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to earn the first point of the day. Nathan McGregor and David Corrie won a close battle with Dennis Andrade and Ricardo Almeida, 9-7. At No. 2 doubles, Ian Vasquez and Niels Buksik defeated Jonas Hoglund and Hetori Chaves 8-5. UTA prevented the sweep in doubles as freshman Todd Hoy and Joe Michael Olfindo defeated Sandy Farquarson and Simri Van Rooyen, 8-1.
In singles, UTA took a 2-0 lead when Van Rooyen defeated Hoy 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.
At No. 2 singles, McGregor beat Hoglund, 7-5, 6-1.
UTA David Corrie, ranked 32nd nationally, defeated Andrade at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. After losing the first set in less than 40 minutes, Corrie broke Andrade at 3-2 and never trailed the rest of the way.
Vasquez-Rowe defeated Joe Michel Olfindo at No. 5 singles and Farquarson completed the sweep with a three-set win over Almeida, 6-3, 6-7, 10-6.
