PLANO, Texas - UTSA senior Christy Brownlee (Galena Park, Texas) has been named Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week for her performance against Southeastern Louisiana this past weekend, the league office announced Monday.
Brownlee batted .571 (4-for-7) with three home runs, eight RBI and three walks in helping UTSA to a three-game series sweep of Southeastern Louisiana (9-0; 15-5; 7-3) at Roadrunner Field over the weekend. She posted a slugging percentage of 1.857 (13 total bases) and an on-base percentage of .700 and was perfect in the field at second base. Two of her homers came in a 15-5 run-ruling of the Lady Lions in game two as the Roadrunners hit nine as a team in the series. Brownlee now has a SLC-best 14 home runs for the season and improved her own UTSA career home run record to 47.
It is the second time Brownlee has been honored as hitter of the week (Feb. 10). She is now hitting .302 for the season and boasts a team-best .781 slugging percentage. In the latest SLC team standings, UTSA (20-14) is in second place behind Texas State (14-1) with a 10-5 league record, one game up on Sam Houston State (9-6).
Brownlee and the Roadrunners will be in action this Thursday, April 1, when they host Texas Southern in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Roadrunner Field. UTSA steps back into conference play this weekend with a three-game series at home against Stephen F. Austin.
