Roadrunners win five events at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Invitational
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The UTSA men's track and field team continued their winning ways on Saturday with five victories at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Invitational held at Cabaniss Multi-Purpose Complex.
Senior All-American Justin Youngblood led the way, winning the javelin and pole vault, while freshman Larry Brooks won the 800 meters, sophomore Joseph Burton took the 400m hurdles and junior Curtis Johnson grabbed top honors in the 200m with an NCAA regional-qualifying mark.
Youngblood, who two weeks ago finished seventh in the decathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships, cleared 14-6 to win the pole vault and measured 181-8 to take the javelin. Sophomore Bryan Wolfe was the runner-up in the javelin with a throw of 179-10. He also finished second in the long (21-11 Ľ) and triple (45-11) jumps.
Brooks won the 800m for the second consecutive week, clocking a 1:54.67 in the two-lapper. Burton timed a 56.69 to win the 400m hurdles and Johnson, an NCAA 200m semifinalist last year, won the deuce with a regional-qualifying time of 21.06.
Other top finishers for the Roadrunners included senior Carl Johnson finishing second in the 110m hurdles (14.32), senior Nate Dilworth placing second in the 100m (10.66) and sophomore David Burnett, competing in his hometown, earning runner-up honors in the 400m (49.99).
The UTSA men and women will travel to Austin to compete in the Texas Relays next Wednesday-Saturday, March 31-April 3.
