HAMMOND, La. - Lucas Stewart and Robbie Johns both went 2-for-5, but Southeastern Louisiana used a three-run seventh inning to push past UTSA, 5-3, in the series finale Sunday at Alumni Field. After the Runners found themselves down 2-0, they quickly evened the count in their half of the second when Lucas Stewart singled to lead off the frame. Johns delivered an RBI-double to right center to plate Stewart and advance Aric Green, who was aboard courtesy of a walk, to third. Clint Sansom then lifted a pitch to center to score Green on the sacrifice.
A pitcher's duel ensued from that point until UTSA broke the tie with a run in the seventh. Sam Mitchell laced a leadoff double to left and later scored on an infield single off the bat of Stewart. The Lions answered with a three-run seventh to take the lead for good with Jimmy Bertelson delivering a two-run double that chased UTSA starter Klae Boehme. Stewart entered in relief to give up a sac fly to Anthony Girabaldi which plated Tony Suarez for the final count of 5-3.
Boehme dropped to 3-3 going six and a third innings giving up nine hits and five runs, three earned, despite just one walk and six strikeouts.
UTSA (10-10, 1-2) returns to action when they host non-conference opponent Texas-Pan American on Tuesday and Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Roadrunner Field home opener.
