LAKE CHARLES, La. - Junior Massiel Martinez and freshman Ana Paula Soto won singles matches but it was not enough as McNeese State defeated UTSA, 5-2, in Southland Conference women's tennis action Saturday.
With the loss, the Roadrunners fall to 4-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference. The Cowgirls improve to 9-3 and 5-1 with the victory.
Martinez and Soto won singles matches at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively, for UTSA. Martinez downed Urska Dobersek in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, while Soto took care of Allison Lui in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. The tandem of junior Paula Erausquin and sophomore Barbara Mooney improved to 7-4 on the season with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. McNeese State won the other two matches to win the doubles point.
The Roadrunners travel over to Beaumont, Texas, for a 9 a.m. match at Lamar on Sunday.
