Nicholls State takes series from UTSA with 5-0 win Wednesday Box Score
THIBODAUX, La. - Junior Krystal Gibson went 2-for-2 with a double but Nicholls State received solid pitching from Dionne Meier for the second time in the series to take the rubber game, 5-0, Wednesday afternoon at Lady Colonels Softball Diamond.
With the win, the Lady Colonels improve to 9-12 overall and 5-7 in Southland Conference action. The Roadrunners fall to 15-14 and 7-5.
Nicholls State struck first with one run in the bottom of the third inning. Sarah Eads singled and scored on fielder's choice to make it 1-0.
The Lady Colonels added a pair of runs in the fourth on a walk, a triple to right-center field and a single to center to increase their lead to 3-0.
Eads plated two more runs with a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-0.
Offensively for the Roadrunners, Gibson had a single and a double, sophomore Amanda Horton added a double and sophomore Krystal Guevara had a single.
Dione Meier worked seven scoreless innings, scattering four hits to improve to 7-5. Freshman Stevi Simpson (5-5) took the loss.
UTSA travels to Ruston, La., to take on Louisiana Tech in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Saturday.
