HAMMOND, La. - The UTSA men's tennis team lost their Southland Conference opening match at Southeastern Louisiana on Friday, 5-2. The Roadrunners fall to 5-8 overall while the Lions improve to 4-4 and 1-1 in the league.
UTSA got off to a good start, winning the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Juniors Ricardo Almeida and Dennis Andrade downed Olivier Nussbaum and Matt Tate at No. 1, 8-5, while freshman Todd Hoy and sophomore Joe Olfindo beat Paul Birkett and Milos Vasovic at No. 3, 8-5.
Southeastern Louisiana came back strong in the singles, winning five of six matches including two in three sets. Hoy was UTSA's only winner at No. 5, defeating Birkett, 6-3, 6-1.
The Roadrunners play at New Orleans on Saturday at 2 p.m. and at Lamar on Sunday at 1 p.m.
