UTSA women win Trinity Invitational; Dupree posts provisional qualifier in women’s pentathlon

Trinity Invitational Results

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s track and field team got the outdoor season started off with a bang, winning 10 events en route to winning the Trinity Invitational on Saturday at E.M. Stevens Stadium. In Moscow, Idaho, sophomore Ryanne Dupree (San Antonio, Texas) posted a season-best and NCAA provisional-qualifying point total of 3,921 to win the women’s pentathlon at the McDonald’s Last Chance Qualifier. That mark would place Dupree in the top 10 nationally and most likely guarantee her a spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships field next Friday-Saturday, March 12-13, in Fayetteville, Ark.

At the Trinity Invitational, the Roadrunners scored 205.5 points to better runner-up Angelo State’s 190 by 15.5. Trinity was third with 112 points.

UTSA won eight individual events and both relays in the first outdoor meet of the year. Junior Rosalind Holmes (Kerens, Texas) sped to an 12.20 clocking to win the 100 meters just ahead of freshman teammate Morgan Moszee, who crossed in 12.44. Senior Jessica Snitkoff (Friendswood, Texas) took top honors in the 200m with a 24.55, while freshman Landry Oliver (San Antonio, Texas) won the 400m in 56.76.

In the 800m, freshman Diane Smith (San Antonio, Texas) led a 1-2-3-4 finish by the roadrunners with a 2:17.85 clocking. Freshman Veronica Silva (San Antonio, Texas) was second in 2:19.64, followed by junior Chonna Wright (San Angelo, Texas) in third (2:21.09) and sophomore Rita Lambert (San Antonio, Texas) in fourth (2:22.67).

Competing unattached, former UTSA standout Katie Poindexter won the 1,500m in 4:38.03, while sophomore Meghan Chance (San Antonio, Texas) was the first collegiate finisher in 4:46.90.

Freshman Lyndsey Sidney (Missouri City, Texas) skimmed the 100m hurdles in 15.08 for first place. Moszee skipped to a 38-9 measure to win the triple jump, while senior Edie Christian (Converse, Texas) won the discus with a throw of 139-8.

The Roadrunners return to the track next Saturday, March 13, at the Pan-Am Invitational in Edinburg, Texas.
