COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Facing its second ranked opponent in as many weeks, the UTSA women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 match to No. 17 Texas A&M on Friday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
The Roadrunners fall to 1-4 on the season, while the Aggies improve to 5-5.
Freshman Tasja Fuhrig (Flensburg, Germany) won her first set, 6-3, at No. 4 singles over A&M's Nicki Mechem, but Mechem came back to win the match, 6-3, 1-0 (5). Senior Kateryna Romanenko (Kiev, Ukraine) battled Seva Iwinski closely at No. 6 singles, falling 6-2, 7-6 (4).
UTSA opens defense of its Southland Conference regular season title on Sunday, March 7, with a 9 a.m. match against Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas.
