UTSA baseball to honor 1994 NCAA Tournament team
SAN ANTONIO - To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of UTSA baseball's historic run to the 1994 NCAA Tournament, the 2004 Roadrunners will honor that team as the Cornerstone of UTSA Baseball in a pregame ceremony beginning at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 29 before the Roadrunners' noon game against George Washington University at Wolff Stadium.
Honored on Sunday will be coaches and team members of the 1994 team which exceeded all expectations in only their third year of existence, winning the Southland Conference Tournament Championship, thus propelling them to the program's first and only NCAA Tournament appearance. The 39 wins posted in 1994 are still a UTSA school record for a single season.
"We are glad to have the former players and Coach (Jimmy) Shankle back on this day because they are an important part of UTSA baseball and we would like to show them our appreciation for what they have done for the program," said head coach Sherman Corbett.
UTSA (4-3) takes to their home field this weekend for a three-game series against George Washington University at Wolff Stadium. Games are slated for 7 p.m., 2 p.m., 12 p.m., Fri.-Sun., respectively.
