UTSA women meet No. 62 Rice Saturday

SAN ANTONIO — After a two-week layoff, the UTSA women’s tennis team (1-2) will travel to Houston, Texas, to meet No. 62 Rice on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.

The Roadrunners went 1-2 on their opening weekend on Feb. 7-8, beating St. Edward’s, 7-0, and dropping tough matches to UTEP, 4-3, and North Texas, 5-2.

Individually, sophomore Nadezda Rossikhina (Volgograd, Russia) is off to a 2-1 start at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Freshman Tasja Fuhrig (Flensburg, Germany) also owns a 2-1 record playing at the third and fourth singles spots, while junior Massiel Martinez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) is 2-1 at Nos. 4 and 5 and senior Kateryna Romanenko (Kiev, Ukraine) is 2-1 at Nos. 5 and 6. The doubles team of junior Paula Erausquin (Salta, Argentina) and sophomore Barbara Mooney (LaPlata, Argentina) is perfect at 3-0.

Rice won the last meeting between the two schools in 2002, 4-3.
