Kirchner named Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week

SAN ANTONIO - UTSA freshman Robert Kirchner (Hannover, Germany) has been named Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his undefeated week against Midwestern State and Saint Louis, the league office announced Wednesday.

Kirchner helped UTSA improve to 4-1 on the season with a 4-2 win over Midwestern State last Thursday and a 4-3 decision against Saint Louis on Sunday. Kirchner defeated Midwestern State's David Barrett, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 singles and dropped Saint Louis' Taylor Curran, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. He combined with junior Ricardo Almeida to win at No. 2 doubles over Thomas Kwong and Tom de Larzac of Saint Louis, 8-2. There were no doubles matches in the Midwestern State match due to cold weather. Kirchner is now 3-1 in singles and 3-0 with Almeida in doubles this spring.

This marks the second consecutive week a Roadrunner has earned the SLC's weekly honor as Almeida was named Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 11.

UTSA will play three matches over three days beginning with a Thursday meeting at No. 75 Pacific in Stockton, Calif. The Roadrunners also play at Sacramento State on Friday and at San Francisco on Saturday.
